June 6, 1959 - July 2, 2021
Bart Eugene Clayton, age 62, a resident of Memphis, TN, departed this earthly life for his heavenly home on July 2, 2021 due to natural cause. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ruby Clayton, a son, Shane Davis Clayton, and nephew Brandon Kidwell. Bart is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan Collins Clayton; 5 siblings: Bo (Barbara) Clayton, Gail (Dennis) Elsken, Sandy (Sid) Bridges, Jody (Greg) Gatewood, and Alicia (Bill) Cook; 3 nephews: David Myers, Ben Carpenter and Brad Clayton; 7 nieces: Laurie Cipalla, Jennifer Mueller, Shelley Seavers, Heather Roberts, Laney Ellsworth, Katy Ellsworth, Ariel Morrow and an uncle, Jim Surber. Other survivors include Rappa and Surber family cousins. Bart’s early years were spent in Memphis. During that time he cultivated many lasting friendships with the Stribling street neighborhood kids. The family moved to Victoria, MS in the early 70’s and his teenage years were spent in northern Mississippi. He graduated from Marshall Academy in Holly Springs, MS and attended Northwest Junior College for a brief period of time before entering the work force. He spent several years in the employment of Holiday Inns, Inc., however he soon moved into the construction field as his primary occupation. His specialty was installation of suspended ceilings in new and existing buildings. He was talented in a variety of areas. Sports was a big part of his life. Bart was skilled in baseball and basketball; he was a varsity member of the Marshall Academy basketball team. He was also an excellent junior golfer. Other hobbies and interests were music and art. Bart was a guitarist for several different bands in the Memphis and Bartlett area in the 70’s and 80’s. He excelled in art; most specifically in pencil-drawing and his family is pleased to retain some of that work. He loved to bass fish. He had outfitted a small aluminum boat and caught many large bass in area fishing lakes. Additionally, Bart was known for his wry sense of humor and imitation capabilities. He could be a very funny guy at times. Bart had failing health in the past few years. Although a recent stroke impacted his ability to work, he had physically recovered to some degree. However, it also affected his ability to care for his wife, Susan, at home. She was recently admitted to Majestic Gardens Rehab and Nursing center. Bart’s testimony of a saving conversion in his earlier years gives his family comfort and peace; knowing that he is with his Savior, Jesus, and those loved ones who preceded him. He was dearly loved by his brother and sisters and his absence creates a void in our hearts. A memorial service celebrating his life will take place in the near future.
