Richard Charles McCrae

With heavy hearts, the McCrae Family must now go on without their beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Richard (Dick) Charles McCrae. Dick passed away in his home, as he hoped to, on January 12th, surrounded by his wife, Jan McCrae and his sister-in-law, Laura Cole. Dick's was preceded in death by his parents Al & Betty McCrae, and his sister Susan (McCrae) Boyd. He is survived by his wife Jan (Evans-Nisley) McCrae; son Mike McCrae (and wife, Laura) of Arlington, WA; daughter Kris (McCrae) Ridley (and husband, Scott) of Lubbock, TX; and step-son Daniel Nisley of Cordova, TN. As well as other family members. A graduate from Ingram High School in 1962, Dick went to Everett Community College. He switched his career path and became a mechanical maintenance apprentice. Four years later, Dick worked at Northwest Steel Rolling Mills in Washington in June 1964. Then in January 1986, the plant changed hands and became known as Birmingham Steel. In 2001, Dick retired from Birmingham Steel as a mechanical maintenance supervisor. During these years, his favorite activities outside of work were fishing and golfing with good friends. Shortly after retiring, Dick moved to Ketchum, Idaho. After some time as a retired man, he went to work for KLM. Later, he decided to go to work for Wood River Lock until he really retired in August 2007. While living in Ketchum, Idaho, Dick married Jan (Evans) Nisley in December 2001. There Dick and Jan adopted a rescue dog they named Chippers. In August of 2007, the three of them traveled the countryside in an RV. After 5 years of this, they decided to settle in the Memphis, TN area to be close to her grandsons, Dillon and Colin Nisley; and step-grandson Jacob Oliphant, who is also in the Memphis, TN area. The family will be hosting a celebration of Dick's life. You will be notified of details at a later time.
