Robert Clements Chapman

November 13, 1936 - October 20, 2020

Mr. Robert Clements Chapman, 83, died October 20, 2020 in Germantown, Tennessee knowing he was loved deeply by his family. Bob, as he was known to his friends, was born November 13, 1936 in Bradenton, Florida to Mary Bailey and Duncan Linwood Chapman. He grew up in Columbus, Georgia and was a member of First Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He attended Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. He and his loving wife Tallulah Morton Chapman were married for fifty-two years. For over forty years, he worked for Sears and Roebuck Company and retired as General Manager in Arkansas. The company led his family to Germantown, Tennessee in 1973. In true Germantown fashion, the family spent many years enjoying the horse show circuit. Bob served as President for the West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association and served on the Board of Directors for the Germantown Charity Horse Show. He and Tallulah spent some wonderful retirement years in the North Georgia Mountains until they returned to the area to be closer to family. His daughter, Mershon Chapman Cummings and son-in law, Douglas Lowe Cummings, were grateful to have had him close for the last six years. The name he was most proud to have was “Bop” to Kenedee and Robbie Cummings. He loved those grandchildren more than anything. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Chapman Gross of Columbus, Georgia. They were blessed to have a special bond. He had three nephews, Bobby Gross (Char), Billy Gross (Melanie), and Bailey Gross and a niece, Mary Carter Gross Wright (Ricky) all of whom he loved. Services will be graveside at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Forest Hill Irene Road in Memphis, Tennessee at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
